Cysts or Chalazion
CYSTS or CHALAZION can occur as a lump on the eyelid, caused by a blocked meibomian gland. They are quite common, usually painless nodules, but they may become acutely inflamed.
Why private treatment?
NHS treatment is restricted and many patients will not be able to have these bumps removed for some time as they are largely cosmetic, albeit, distressing. For this reason many patients seek private treatment. Antibiotic eye drops or ointment may be used to treat the initial acute infection. While some chalazia may disappear naturally others will need to be removed under local anaesthetic. This day surgery is usually performed underneath the lid to prevent scarring on the surface of the skin. This quick procedure has an excellent outcome.
